Gut hook fillet knife?

HHH Knives

Super Moderator
This is a custom order I just finished up for a friend in the great state of Alaska!
He contacted me and asked about a large fillet knife.. I can do that.. Then he said.. With a gut hook!!??!! I was like Hmmm.. Really? and he went on to tell me how he had been cleaning kings for 20 years and had decided that a gut hook would be perfect for this task!

Has anyone ever seen a Gut hook Fillet knife B4 this one?

This one is O1 steel with Cocobolo scales and mosaic pins..
OAL is 14 1/2 inches with a 9++ inch blade.

I really like the way this one turned out.. I dubbed it the Salmon Slayer! lol

God Bless

Never seen one with a gut hook!

Sure could've used one (cleaning 60-90 fish a night) fishing for blues for a restaurant off Cape Cod back in the day :)

I like it.

Many are made with a "spoon" on the end to clear the insides with, but that's the first gut hook on a fish knife I've seen. Frank

That is the first I have ever seen........ And I have to say that you did an excellent job in representing it. The knife is Beautiful.

Thanks guys, This is the first one I have ever seen, let alone made.. The thing is LAZOR sharp!! It should do its intended job very well!
I will keep you Dogs posted as to what the customer says and how it worked for him..

Again thanks for the nice comments and responses..

Randy I love the knife but honestly I cant see it working well the gut hook is too small the belly is too thick on a salmon for a small gut hook. I watched the world champion fillet competition and these guys dont mess around most the top guys use about a 6 inch blade but the champion uses like a 2 inch blade fillet and bone a 15 lb salmon in under 15 seconds both sides and boned out its seriously sick to watch. I can do a walleye in like 2 minutes a perch is 40 seconds but a 15 pound salmon Lmao. These guys work at cannerys and get bonus for hitting large numbers of fish per day. I would love to have one of your fillet knives dont get me wrong but I have a new out look on gut hooks period. I did 3 or 4 for people gut hook skinners and they all said that the hook fills up with to much debri to work properly. I then went out killed a deer and tryed one of the ones I have not sold and im not happy with the way mine worked . I have seen some skinners with huge gut hooks almost 1 inch diameter , I think they would work better but Im not making anymore. I hope your customer is happy that is the main thing .Kellyw

Randy,
I really like the knife in general only I don't think it will help much. As said it's too small & too far forward.

I don't care for gut hooks because of the safety factor. It just seems too dangerous to have the main cutting edge on a blade pointed up at you when people are tired after a long days hunt or fishing trip and your hands are cold while it's getting dark is just a recipe for disaster to me.

I have made a few set's for hunters that have the knife and then a hook handled in a double sheath.

Great idea though and keep pressing the norm & accepted!
