I thought I better make my first post before my year anniversary came up. I haven't posted but enjoy this place. Started making file knives, so I have a lot to learn about real knife making.

I would say welcome to the pack, but you've been here longer than me. Glad to see your input on the sword thread. I racked my brain starring at kanji for about an hour and ended up loosing focus.

We look forward to seeing more of your participation and photos.

First knives

Here are my first knives, both from old files, tempered down in the kitchen oven. Brass pins in the one with micarta scales, and corby bolts in the osage orange. I burned the wood on the belt sander before I even realized it grinding on the brass. At that point other imperfections didn't seem out of place so I left them.

I gave up on the kitchen oven after the first two knives. I dulled too many drill bits, and broke a masonry bit.

My next batch was fully annealled in a HT oven, and like magic, hole drilling, filing and sanding became so much easier. I'll post photos in the newbie section when I am done.
