I picked this up for the shop today, thinkin I might be able to use it for some "mycarta" or other things. What else do you think this could this be used for? The plate is 9.5 x 12 in size. Larry

Damascus...if you're quick.

I couldn't resist that comment.
Micarta is a definate. Just about anything you need to glue together. I can't think of any at the moment but I know that once you have something like that, it comes in handy.

Good score. I've looked for something similar in every junk and sntiques shop I've gone into over the past year. I want to use one for a Kydex press.

Would the time it takes to screw it down and compress the neoprene/foam be to long and allow the kydex to cool to much?

I don't think so. I would probably change out the handle to a wheel shaped handle for ease of pressing. Even the thinner stock of Kydex that I use takes a minute or so to cool off to the point to where I wouldn't be comfortable trying to press it. You just have to develop a routine of how you do it. I made alot of mistakes pressing Kydex until I developed my routine.

You can also pre-heat your foam a bit to assist in preventing the Kydex from cooling off too quick by just making a few passes over the foam with your heat gun on a low heat setting while waiting for your kydex to heat up.

you could use it as a ......... book press, just kidding thought I might mention what it was originally. I use mine for pressing horn, as a gluing press ect ect. the Kydex idea is great I never thought of that.

If you stumble onto another one of those get it for me. I could find something to use that for..

Ide use it for warping scales after stabilizing and horn after cutting some times wants to warp. With some modifacations the kydex press would be good if you took off the screw clamp.
