Picked this guy up today and after using Ed Cafferey's pics of his stand I was able assemble my own. Sure will be nice to be able cut steel at home!!

Thanks, should make things a lot handier

One question to anyone else using a Dewalt portable bandsaw, on the on/off trigger i am currently using a set of vice grips to hold the trigger in so i can use both hands, any other tips on a better way to do this?? i thought i had seen a pic where someone had the trigger zip tied down but my guess then was that i would have to unplug it each time and given limited space on my work bench i would have to lean over and past the saw, not what i really wanted to do

So i promptly take me new metal band saw to a small EDC knife i am getting ready to make out of some 5/32" CPM 154, i leave the speed setting where its at, level 5 which is the fastest it has, and start cutting away! Im very impressed until it all cutting progress stops and i realize that i have already burned through my first saw blade. Luckily at Lowes i bought a 3 pack of more blades, i replace and turn the speed down to a level 2 and progress further at a much better rate. I guess ya only learn by either asking or screwing stuff up yourself, i am amazingly adept at the later :)

are there any better saw blades than the 3pk i am buying at Lowes? they cost me $18 bucks for 3 so i didnt know if a higher grade saw blade would be economical or not?

My time with my nose to the Grind Stone has shown that the slower or slowest speed is best when cutting steel and that the Bimetal blades are worth what they cost! Get the Bimetal saw blades of 14tpi and brands of Lennox, Starrett Made in USA are the two I have used and are happy with!
I find them on Ebay at the 64 1/2" that my metal saw blades are.
 
Here is my set up in pics. I built this stand for it. I have the switch tied back and run it thru a foot switch I picked up off of ebay. The power goes to the foot switch and then to the electrical box and then the saw is plugged into it. I have it pulled out so you can see the setup in the pics. It will be transferred to another bench when I get it built and I plan on mounting the electrical box onto the leg of the new bench and the cord will come up from the back, totally out of the way! The table is made from 3/16" plate steel mounted using the two screws that held the original in place.

I got mine brand new in the box for about the same price or a little less. I just kept watch and caught a deal. Mine has the wide pedal is the only difference. For some reason no one was bidding on it. I really like the wide pedal as I never have to look to find it.

On the saw i use, i tie the switch back with a zip tie. But I can slide the tie on and off the switch as i need to. It works for me. Scott
 
Thanks Scott, i may try that, just zip it above it and pull it down when needed, sounds good

I love the saw so far, i can tell it is gonna save a lot of 60 and 80 grit belts with sooooooo much less to grind :)

That is a great set up. I still use mine along with a 64 inch metal bandsaw. Swag off road makes gear for the portaband saws

I had no idea how much I used my saw! I have one just like yours, works like a champ! I need to make a stand and get mine out of the vise! Im using a cheapo plastic squeeze clamp on mine.
