Stainless Foil ????

Quick question fellas,

When heat treating stainless (ATS-34) and your grinding the blade after heat treat do you still use the foil ?

You really don't want to mess with that decarb! it's a PITA and is hard on belts as well.

Gotcha, I've got foil so it's not a big deal. This gonna be my first stainless so I thought I'd ask and see what other do.

How do you feel about putting two matching blades in an envelope ?

I put up to 5 or 6 in one as long as you can get them out in time or quench them in the foil under plates.

can you use the foil on carbon steel? Would it hurt it or would it help it.

I use it on carbon steel too. there will still be a little scale on the blades but not as much. This only works in an HT oven or kiln though.

I use a piece of brown paper grocery sack about the size of a postage stamp on SS. Don't forget to double fold the foil on the ends and side. Also, the foil is extremely sharp when handled, be careful.
