Tapered tang

I have been forging in my taper in my knives front to back. when I get to the rough out stage I often make the mistake of taking to much off one side. So at this point I end up chasing a perfect taper and often times I fall short and I end up pretty frustrated .

If I go with a center line down the spine would that show up as even on a pre tapered blade. Or would I be better off scraping the forged in taper clean the blade up do a center line on a flat blade and then do the taper.

Thanks for any tips.

I think I figured out what I was doing wrong. The problem stems from me wanting to keep the brute de forge look and at first glance I think the blade is tapered good front to back. but when I start grinding and it starts looking like it is hooking one way or another. So what I just did was to take the blade vertically to the platen and ground up past the ricaso and flattened that out and it seems to be evening out. But only problem is I am loosing the look I was going after. Oh well..Practice makes perfect
