Vulcanized spacer material

I have not posted on the makers page for some time to ask a question. About 2 years ago I bought some spacer material from my supplier it comes in 8 different colors and is very reasonably priced at less than 2 dollars per sheet. Here is the question , after being glued to the knife tang and the handle material is then glued on is their a possibility of moisture being absorbed into the waxy paper like material thus causing the handles to pop off due to expansion. ????? I have been told this, and would like to know who has had trouble like this. I have been doing some fillet knives with abolone and back it with the paper due to the abolone is thin to start with. I've not had it pop off scales, but it will absorb moisture and swell, and then shrink when it drys out, meaning that prefectly flush fit will not stay that way. I've switched to thin G10 or micarta, it is much more stable.

Vulcanized fiber will absorb water but very slowly. I've never heard of it popping off scales. That doesn't mean it hasn't happened, I've just never seen it. Still, I made it a practice to seal the edge with thin super glue to prevent moisture from soaking in.
Personally, I think colored g10 is a better way to go any more.

I've been using Vulcanized fiber scales on my Culinary knives and haven't had any issues with it popping off scales or anything like that.

I do like the colored G-10 "Especially Boss Dogs" but what I don't like about it is cutting and grinding the material.

It turns into little fish hooks that will stay in your lungs forever if you don't have a respirator on all the time and I killed a band saw blade cutting it! lol.

Tracey I had thought of a little glue might help this problem out. I would feel bad if a scale popped off then having to fix the problem sometimes is harder than making a handle from scratch. Thanks ya all I hope more input on this subject helps me make a decision. Kellyw

Kelly,
I was just thinking? are you sure it's a vulcanized spacer and not that thin .30 ish plastic stuff?
I have had the plastic stuff become brittle & crack. $2.00 a 12 x12 is too cheap for the Vulcanized stuff.
