I meant to ask if a thumb stud is generally required hardware.

If it's a flipper you won't need a thumb stud but you can add one if you like. There are no rules other than the laws of physics.

Matt , I use a small cutoff wheel mounted in my mill.

Freds, did you use the cutoff wheel for the lockbar or the semicircular cut in the liner?

I cut the lock bar with a small cutoff wheel , the lock cam was cut on a milling machine.
