What's going on in your shop?

Daniel -- Another tip about stamping. Use the best leather you can find for stamping. The better the leather, the better the leather takes a stamp. Some types of leather are just better/easier to stamp. It appears as though you have some sort of drummed dyed leather. I have difficulty getting good crisp stamping on pre-treated leather. IE drum dyed and finished. I get a much better result using untreated veg. tanned leather. It is called "carving" leather by some makers. My overly simple /preferred method. 1) Case the leather 2) Carve/stamp the leather 3) Color/dye the leather 4) Finish the leather. I hope that helps you out a bit.

I completely agree. For whatever reason this practice leather is not wanting to tool. This was eight pretty good wacks with the Hammer. And freshly wet leather.
How thick is that leather? there may just be not enough give in it if it is thinner. I don't know how that smooth shiny surface affects tooling either. Hmmm...
Edit: I didn't see Dennis' response before I replied. What he said^^

Bit of a different one for me. I’ve never done a tanto before, and I usually don’t leave bevels the way they come off the grinder. In this case I thought the contrast of the vertical scratch pattern on the bevels and tanto made for crisper lines. The single bevel grind made for a deep plunge. I like it. Handle is redwood burl. Steel is AEBL.

Edit: Ugh. In a big picture you can really see your dirty fingerprints... I'd take another but I already shipped it today. :(

Oops, your box arrived and John posted a knife in the time I wrote below....Congrats Jon...and beautiful knife John !

Man that IS a bummer, it seems like the delivery guys are always nice, but there's got to be a bunch behind the scenes that don't give a hoot, loosing and breaking stuff...then you got the thieves.
Today I pulled up to a customers house and found an Amazon box by the curb, it was all ripped open. I looked at the address and it was for a house three house's down, and it had two kids toys in it. I walked down and gave them to the homeowner. he said that was all that was supposed to be in it and thanked me.

I just had FedEx drop off a tree stand to me about half an hour ago that the tracking said it was out for delivery yesterday, then around 8:00 last night they changed it to today. better late then never but man it seems like anything that hits the road, you really got to keep your fingers crossed.

Yeah!!!!

That’s awesome Jon! Looking forward to seeing the work you produce with it. That set-up will be a dream to work with.
Heck of a learning curve, found a burr on my platen when I switched to a J weight belt gonna have to clean it up until i can get a glass platen rigged up
