What's going on in your shop?

Spent the weekend in Western Montana with family. While I was there I picked up this guy. Paragon oven! A maker in Helena was upgrading to a larger kiln so he sold this one to me for $800.

Sometimes things workout sometimes not. Knifemaking is about learning and growing. Some hardcore banding just mudding up all the figure in this hamon.

Trying to finish this full-sized Nessmuk for a customer. I screwed up the first walnut handle I put on it and had to cut it off and try again. This one is turning out much nicer I think. Still have a lot of work to do on it though. A lot of hand sanding to be done.

Love the handle ... blade is awesome too! I might try to make one of those one day

Beautiful knife! I'd feel like a poser carrying that knife unless I was in my own handmade canoe!

Thanks John. It's probably not quite an exact representation of the knife he carried, but I do like the classic old style looks of it - kind of like it might have been something he would've carried!

Testing out the new kiln, and dialing in the 1075 heat treat. I really enjoy testing out knives. 1075 is tough stuff I tried to cut a board in half with a 2-3/4" blade. I gave up after 15 minutes. I also dug a hole in the board trying to break the tip off.
The blade is still shaving sharp. I ran out of leather. Before that happened the was still cutting strong at 130 push cuts. I'm going to do more testing on the blade later.

I'll cut some deer antler, chop a nail in half, and break it in the vise to look at grain structure.

Ive had this "bench" for about 6 yrs...in the basement. I bought it from K-Mart when they were closing down their food service area. It was a drink stand for pop and ice. Cost $20 (because I bought $500 worth of restaurant equipment). It had a red formica top that I removed. I bought some composite wood decking material ($180 I think) So my son is going to drill the top and screw the decking down from below and it should be a very nice bench for about $200. Stainless shelves and double wall, very heavy. 300 plus pounds. It feel real nice to finally start getting some shop projects finished!

I don't remember if I posted pics of this one before. If I did, it was using a different photo hosting site that I don't use any more. A large knife in S35VN.
