Woods Moisture Content

I was looking at having some wood sent in for stabilizing, and the website I went to said that the wood needs to be 10% or less moisture content. How do you tell if wood is 10% or less? I searched it, and learned that their are fancy meters that are very expensive that will give moisture content, and another method involved weighing the wood when it was fresh cut. That is not an option for me. I found a cheap meter online for $12 but everyone that has reviewed it has only mentioned using it on soft firewood. Is there another method I'm missing? Thanks in advance.

Jess,
most of the stabilizers have a moisture meter and will check it for you if you ask and even sit in the corner for awhile if it is a bit too moist. Some will dry it to the needed moisture content for a small fee.
