What's going on in your shop?

Making a knife for a friend of mine, had some trouble with the handle block and wound having to hog it off on the grinder and make a new guard and handle....I messed up while taking the wood off. So I made a new guard and a handle blah blah blah. So my friend that makes sheathes is in the midst of selling/moving/renovating his house so no sheaths from him for a bit.... why does this crap look easy in videos I’ve ruined plenty of leather for one day

Your knife looks great.
Sheaths are a whole different skill set.
I finally took a class which helped out a lot, but it still takes practice.
Did you start your sheath with a pattern? I use file folders to draw out and cut a pattern before cutting the leather.
DeMo or some of the other leather experts will be along shortly.
Read their posts for good info.

I used a file folder for a pattern. I have to run to the store later and plan on grabbing a pack of card stock or something like that to use for them

I took this pic last night as I was heat treating a 416/1095 san mai bowie/fighter...can't wait to finish this one...

Tried my hand at making a sheath, first time here, if it had not been for @EdCaffreyMS coaching it’d still be a drawing on a sheet of paper

That piece has A LOT of eye appeal! You nailed the "flow" on that one really well.

Thanks! I liked the Vesticola (expensive stuff) its some pretty hard stuff. The color was a dull red and really didn't come out until the tru-oil had a chance to soak in. It was the first time I'd worked with it. So I was a little concerned at first.

Hidden pins were another first (AB bolster) for me. There might have been some swearing going on during that process....

Having some fun in the shop.
first one is for my first paying customer lol 8670 hunter With green maple scales and bronze pins
Second is for a good friend. 80crv2 small skinner with dymondwood scales.
third is a 62year anniversary present for mother inlaw. 15n20 chief with blue maple scales
These are gorgeous, Bobby. Could you share where you found the Dymondwood? I was under the impression it was no longer available because of a factory fire, or something like that.

240mm gyutos with new handles. Yahiko Damascus with white denim G carta handle and white g10 spacer and a Tojiro Shirogami Kasumi gyuto with M3 composite ferrule, white/black/white spacer and blue buckeye burl handle in an octagon. First octagon handle in several years and I used my Ameribrade Fastback to do it instead of my 12" disc sanders.
