Hello All

Bob Warner

KNIFE MAKER
Decided I should sign up and stop just looking around.

Unfortunately I don't get to spend much time on forums lately but will check in when I can.

Been around knifemaking for quite a while, built a few tools and helped a few people over the years.

Hopefully I can contribute to your forum.

Here are a few photos of my shop. It is not a dedicated knife making shop but a shop to do whatever needs done. You will notice there is no forge or press or other large tools used in knifemaking, that is because I had to sell them to make ends meet during a physically challenging time I went through. I am currently planning a new press, forge and a few more items.

Hopefully the following photos will have something in them that gives you ideas for your own shop.

Photo 1 is part of the north wall of the shop
Photo 2 is the rest of the north wall
Photo 3 is the part of the east wall
Photo 4 is rest of the east wall and part of the South wall
Photo 5 is the more of the south wall

A few more photos of the shop.

Photo 6 is the Southeast corner. Shows a press I will be modifying for knifemaking. I recently installed a new garage door so the ugly one is now gone.
Photos 7 & 8 are of my welding table
Photo 9 shows how I store tape measures, screwdrivers and such.
Photo 10 shows a bucket hanging from the center of the room. This is attached to a crane in the attic that I use to lift heavy objects.

Welcome Bob, Sorry about the financial reversal you went through. Remember this, it is not how many times you get knocked down, but how many times you get up. Prayers for your complete recovery and back to knife making.
Jim

Mr. Bob! Good to see you here! Been a long time....hope all is going well for you.

You've made a good choice....Knifedogs is one of my favorite internet knife hangouts, just the best folks you could ever wish for.

Ilove tool porn...nice welding setup, and I see at least you have no trouble finding a pipe wrench , or a measuring tape...:D

Hello Bob, Welcome to the pack! Nice shop, did you build the belt grinder I noticed in the second set of pics? Looking forward to see some of your work, Take care, Dave

Thanks Guys.

Jatmat, I have been trying to climb out of this hole for a long time.

I have the press parts, just need the steel. I think I will use build something like Ron Claiborne builds. I think he uses 3X6" tubing 1/4" thick. I have a six inch cylinder and the pump an all the good stuff.

Ed,
Been a while my friend.
You know my past as well as anyone and I am finally trying to get back into knives a little bit. Gave a couple classes recently that will help pay for press making steel and may put up my 200# anvil to get the cash for the rest of the build.

Still can't find a job and have been getting by welding and building stuff for the farmers around here but it sure is tight. Considering making damascus for sale but not sure if I can dedicate the hours. Wish the heck someone in the Dallas area needed me. Too old, too busted up and what I used to make money with (my brain) is no longer needed by anyone. Now it is $50 here and $100 there and hope it all works out int he end. Does not help that my wife has Lupus and takes EXPENSIVE medications and no insurance to help.

Been this way for about 5 years now. My leg is getting better now after about 4 years and the limp is tolerable now, the broken back is still causing problems but does not stop me from working. Give my sciatic nerve something to scream about though.

Unfortunately forging is still out of the question for general knife making as standing at the anvil is hard for the lengths of time to forge out a few knives. Going to do some stock removal both carbon and stainless to see how it goes.

Hopefully it will all pan out in the end.

12345678910,

I do have a couple pipe wrenches and a few other tools. I am doing everything possible to keep them and not sell them to pay bills. They can earn me money over time so I guard them like a hawk.

One thing I can say about the shop and the tools I have, I earned them. When I started knifemaking I had a vice and some files. Over the years I sold knives and bought or built better tools. Everything in the photos, including the shop building and the camera that took the photos were all obtained through knifemaking and later welding and fabrication. Never took a dime out of the family budget and have actually been able to add to the family budget periodically.

I may be a new pack member but I have been around metal dust for a LONG time.

Thanks to all, Bob

Bob,
Send me your address via PM, I want to send you a box of G-11, it can be used for fixtures as well as knife handles. Allen Newberry makes all sorts of items with it, besides handle slabs.

Good Luck and I hope you find a job worthy of your expertise and knowledge. (as well as paying really great and plus insurance)

Until then,
See you around the forums,
Will ship Monday if you get the addy to me,
Jim

Thanks Jim, PM sent.

I would love to get a hunk of this stuff to try out. I can send you some cash, just let me know how much and how to get it to you.

Thanks,

Bob
