    Disc Grinder Advantages

Ok ....I have made some progress after phoning a company and speaking to a guy there who asked me what Horse power I needed, I said I would imagine 3/4 min, possibly 1HP......would you guys agree? He said as its the UK I need a three phase motor, 4 pole, the VFD would convert the single phase...

    Blades thickness - Heat treat

Ok thanks for the info. :)…..Oh and one of the blanks is a mixture of stainless, the other a mixture of carbon steels but I am guessing just shape them, heat treat and then do the grinds. Makes it much easier for me.

    Blades thickness - Heat treat

Hi Ed Its will be Markus Balbach of Germany. I cannot put with my normal steel as totally different heat treat which has already been done, that was stainless, the new steel is carbon and so someone I know with an oven will do it for me. The industrial places would charge hundreds of £'s to...

    Blades thickness - Heat treat

I have all my blanks heat treated in bulk as they are laser cut from sheet and then I grind fully hardened. I want to try a few knives in Damasteel 'Damascus' as I have had a few requests. So I am going to grind most of the knife in the annealed state but what I need to know is how much...

    Disc Grinder Advantages

Thanks for the reply Tim. What I was intending doing was getting the hub/plates from the states and the motor from here in the UK. But before I did anything I was going to let an engineering pal look at everything first as I thought there might be an issue with bore sizes. Knowing him he...

    Disc Grinder Advantages

Following on from the post by the Boss regarding disc grinder plates and the bonding of papers to the surface plate of one I have been looking into making one as I am in the UK and to buy a US model/shipping would be hugely expensive. So, what I am looking to do is buy the hub/plates from the...

Knives I made and sold this month... Sheaths by Gaz Kendall who does all my leather work now.

You can do the whole animal but they are particularly good for opening the stomach so that that everything is contained as to not contaminate the meat, The are excellent for skinning, it just knife skills and knowing how to use them.

    8 inch sanding discs

Hi Boss I just looked at this post again as only looked briefly the other night as was exhausted after a long day. Now I have looked at what you have said it certainly makes sense to go the feathering adhesive route. You mention the sanding discs from Beumont works and making your own disc...

    Cutting logs

Thanks for the replies gents and it is the log rolling that puts the fear of God up me  as when they bind they don't half kick. I will try the methods as described and obviously the important bit is getting a flat on the log. If I cannot managed it (as very dense wood) I think I will buy...

    Cutting logs

Not sure if anyone will know the answer to this but I have several burls and some logs of Laburnum that are around 16 inches long and maybe 10 inches round. I used to have a band saw which I sold and although I could cut logs on this it was a tad scary if the blade jammed / grabbed. Now I want...

    8 inch sanding discs

That is great , very informative. I think I go lucky with my last lot of discs, as although I ones I use at the moment are d doddle to remove I have had them in the past where I had to take a heat gun to the platen. So I am trying to get samples from the supplier before I move onto the...

    8 inch sanding discs

Hi Boss It is interesting you say this and I might check the discs of the new supplier by getting a sample before I buy. The two discs I have been using have been Norton and they on first inspection you would think they might not be that sticky. But when they are pressed onto the sander they...

I will look for that also Kev. managed to find a place in the UK who said that apparently most companies are phasing out PSA discs in favour of Velcro over here. I also found another ceramic belt they make which are made by Starcke I believe which I might give a whirl as Cubitron belts are...
