I used 2" with a 1/4" wall thickness. The 1 1/2" fits good and the 1/4" wall makes it a lot heavier but it dampens vibration. Plus it was free that always helps with a decision.

I've been using th AO smith paint. I've been pretty happy with it but it gets air bubbles in it real easy and it's really pricey. I think I'm going to switch to the Brownells or the Rose Mill powder Tracy carries.

I use a Craftsman oscillating spindle sander. I do knives and woodwork on it and haven't had a problem yet. Just my $.02.
