    Bandsaw bladesand speed?

Thanks fo all the answers! The slowest speed on the saw is 80fpm and the fastest is 200fpm. Today I've been running it on 120fpm and cut out about 35 blades. I'm using a bit cutting fluid for each blade, but not much. Should I slow it down to 80 instead? Regards Jakob

Grindig after HT, pros and cons?

Thank you for your answer Ed! Do you think that I would be better using high quality (ceramic?) 50/60 grits belt instead for the courser 36 or even 24 grit belts when grinding after ht? Usually I use 36, 80, 320, 900 or just 60,320, 900 both metods are as fast as the other. I'm using a...

Grindig after HT, pros and cons?

Hi, I know some of you are grinding your bevels after ht. I've heard it's quite common for folder makers who usually make smaller blades. I'm a scandi maker and make quite small blades compared to you guys. Most of my blades are 3''-4'' long. I think I could save me some trouble with...

    antique etch blades?

Do anybody have a good etching solution for making your knife blades look antique? I don't want a plain black or grey blade, I would like a bit more textured etch. Maybe a mix of mustard and vinegar? Regards Jakob

Yeah I will definetly get some better Bi-metal blades. We do got a local company from who we buy blades from. We are regular customers for wood cutting blades and can get bi-metal blades quite cheap from them. I will also make a better toolrest for it. Are there any other modifications I...

    Lets talk about 3V

http://www.crucibleservice.com/eselector/prodbyapp/tooldie/cpm3vt.html Crucible says it's air hardening but will it be to slow for knife blades? Have the plate temperature and size any effect on the final result. I haven't tried the steel yet but will do. Regards Jakob Nylund

    Paper/leather wheels

Hi, I need some sort of sharpening wheel for final polishing of the edge. What would you prefer, a paper or a leather wheel? I have a buffer that runs at 100-600 rpm. I also have a big 16'' wooden wheel that I could make into a leather wheel and use with the buffer. What do you...
