Caffrey Knives is now a VA approved Training Facility!

Ed, Congrats on getting this going for MANY reasons! I know a few vets that are in search of a career, a few of which are now disabled, and while knife making may not be a lucrative career, the SKILLS used in knife making go a long way in some apprenticeship programs. Ed, please don't...

    5 ready for heat treat

The top one looks like a great necker candidate to me! Like the others, looking forward to some WIP or finished pics. Question, how do you figure out which hole is for pins? Charlie

I'm SURE someone has needed this before...

How the heck do you remove scales once they have been epoxied on? I got a bit heavy handed on one of the scales and need to replace them both so they match, preferably WITHOUT grinding off. Ideas? Charlie

    Brown sugar quench

"Yeah, I said brown sugar quench!" That's what I was told by our machinist here at work. He said that he has quenched in BS, I mean brown sugar, in the past for certain metals. When I asked which ones he told me he would have to look it up later this evening... I can't wait! For the...

Knives to deliver to family members this weekend!

Thanks folks! The little knife is one that I really don't want to part with! But, mom has asked me to make a real knife for her that matches the soapstone carved knife she bought in Sweden back in the 70s. When I hand it to her there will be one condition that goes along with it; she...

Knives to deliver to family members this weekend!

The 2 knives I am displaying below are for family members that will be delivered this weekend at a family get together. These knives are made from an old file that used to belong to my great-great-uncle John. He was a carpenter in the Clarksville, TX area until he retired in the early 70s...

    Surgury Today

After my surgery I had the same sensation between the shoulder blades. I would tell my wife that the bumble bees were back when I would start to hurt or move the wrong direction. They will move a long soon and you'll quickly get back to normal, without migraines! Have you tried sleeping in a...

1st one in 15 years finished from scratch

Thanks guys! Sorry Bob, the knife is to be presented this weekend to my Uncle that gave me the tools from the great-great uncle. He has no clue I did this. He's in pretty bad health and I figured I'd get this done since this may be his last deer season. JKR, if ALL goes as planned I...

Knife No.7 first one in O1

I like the look of it and wonder a few things... What are the specs of the knife (length, etc...) and how was it working with the corian? Charlie

    Some of my latest knives

VERY nice work! I would love for the far right to be in my pocket! The file work really adds to the look of these knives, but what are the scales made from? I'm thinking MOP and mammoth ivory for 2 and 3, not sure about 1... Charlie

    Second Daggger

GREAT looking knife overall, but the hamon REALLY looks great the way is flows down the center line! Me thinks there is more to tell though... Not talking about the "ring" spacer above the guard, but the handle piece that looks like damascus, what is it? Nice work! Charlie

    Gonna make Ernie mad...

My wife designed a knife that she wants to carry in her purse, and the handle is going to be PINK G-10 with a brass strip in the center (length wise). The lady of the house saw that I was making 2 knives from old files a few weeks ago, and while she was in the shop (garage) one evening she...

A lot of guys with medical issues lately

The light turned on for me Bob, and it's still burning brightly! The wife isn't too thrilled, but she'll get over it! I think! :what!::lol: I only wish I could do it DAILY in your shop! Charlie

We have lost one of the great names in knives. R.I.P. Bob Loveless

Never had the opportunity to even see his work other than online, but I heard many great things about him! This is strange, I ordered one of his books yesterday from Jantz... Charlie

    Titanium Kiridashi Money Clip

Sweet looking little design, but like the others I think you may be asking for a poke at a minimum and a slice at worst. Maybe not to yourself, but someone bumping into you, or a significant other getting cozy, could get injured. Charlie

    Surgury Today

Good luck and I can tell you for a fact, you will love the results! I had this done on 2008 and it cured my issues! Just do what the Dr says and you'll be back in no time. Charlie
