100 lb LP tank + heavy duty cart, Pictures Added

I've added some pictures of the tank and cart. Note: Oxygen tank is not included. I have a 100 lb. LP tank and 2-wheeled cart that needs a new home. There is still some gas in the tank, but I don't know how much. I'm in the Twin Cities North Metro, make reasonable offer. -Kurt

Grind Before or after Heat Treat?; Lessons Learned

Last year I sold a knife to a guy who wanted to give it to his brother as a best-man's gift for his wedding. He loved it, field dressed and butchered a bear and 3 deer with it. Last winter, I asked to see it to evaluate how it was holding up. I was dismayed to find that the edge looked like...

    Latest, hunter in Leopard Wood

I finally got around to making a light box so I could take better pictures of my work. Here's a shot of my latest, a hunter in AEB-L, leopard wood with brown and black micarta spacers. This was part of a trade deal with my cousin's husband for a rifle I built for my niece to deer hunt with...

    First stck tang,,, sort of...

Actually a repair job, but hey, fit my first guard, made a broaching tool and squared off the blind hole for the tang etc. Gotta wave the victory flag now and then eh? A guy who did some training for my dog, Guinness, asked me if I'd trade some training time in exchange for repairing an old...

    Clip Point Question

I'm making a couple of hunters with clip points. Would I be better off to grind the clips (back bevels) before grinding the primary bevels, or vice versa? Thanks -Kurt

    grain size, 1095

Below is a picture of a cross section from a blade I just heat treated. It's 1/16" 1095. Here's the process I followed: Normalize for 10 minutes each at 1575, 1475, 1400, air cooling to black between each. Austenized to 1475 and quenched in park's 50 Spheoridized at 1300 and allowed to cool...

AEB-L HT, Pre, Post Grinding Question

All of my experience with AEB-L has been with thin stock, thus, I've heat treated prior to grinding. I've got a couple of blanks on my bench in .136" stock, so there's a greater amount of stock to remove, so I'm considering doing a portion of the grind before HT. If I do a near-complete grind...

    One for my Nephew

About a year ago, my nephew (age 9 at the time) came up to my place to see my new puppy. While he was here, I asked him if he'd like to help heat treat a blade. Well, that blade has been sitting in the rack ever since and I decided it wa time to finish it up and give it to him. The blade is...

Etching a blade with a patina

I'm new to this etching thing. If I wanted to retroactively mark blades that I'd previously put into service and that had already picked up a patina, can I just clean them with a solvent and etch them, or do I need to abrade away the patina to expose fresh metal prior to etching? thanks -Kurt

    edge retention testing

I'll just lob this out there and keep it wide open. What do you guys do, or recommend, as a testing routine for edge retention? I realize that the kind of knife under test will affect the answer, so please qualify responses by identifying the type of knife associated with specific testing...

Anyone care to critique my maker's mark?

I posted this on BF too, but thought I'd broaden my audience and post here too. I've been meaning to get to this for quite some time and this morning had the opportunity to get some help from a neighbor who works with Adobe Illustrator. I've paid attention to the comments I've seen in other...
