I have made 5 or6 knives out of cruforge V so I am certainly no expert. I did think it forged fairly well , it does decarb and you need to leave plenty of steel to grind off after heat treating .I tempered it at 400 worked good 375 was just too low. The test/ shop knife I made has held up well, though I think 5160 does better at holding an edge just my opinion. I only work with a few carbon steel so I don't have a lot to compare it by. probably not lots of help ...Steve

In my experience CruForge is about equal to quality 1084 in performance. Most folks gave up on CruForge when we discovered that there are no plans to make anymore of it once the current supply is depleted.
Working wise, CruForge was designed to be easily forgeable, and I can still remember the answer I got when I asked about heat treating it...... "Get it hot and quench it in something wet." Meaning that it is very forgiving and easy to heat treat.

I spoke to Scott Devanna regarding the future of CruForge. Scott said they currently have about 35,000 pounds in stock. When the supply gets low they will make more if the steel is selling. There are no plans to discontinue CruForge.
Bottom line, if you like CruForge buy it. Buying CruForge will help ensure a continuous supply.
