Experience with Giraffebone.com

Anybody have experience purchasing from Giraffebone.com???

I was visiting the website, and added a set of scales to my shopping cart to see what the total cost would be (with shipping). Anyway, I proceeded through a couple of steps when I ended up at a page that said (and I'm paraphrasing) "Thanks for your order. We'll send you an invoice." Now I'm used to paying on-line with a CC... but they never asked me for a CC # or for any sort of order confirmation - just shipping address. Now I don't mind paying for these scales, but the process kind of caught me off guard. So I just wanted to see if anyone here has had any experience with these guys.

I recently bought some stuff from them but I called and gave credit card info over the phone.I was happy with the product and their service and my grand daughter was tickeld to get some stamps from South Africa off of the envelope.

I have this place in my favs but havent ordered from them yet.Curious to hear some replies. Their product looks good.

Hi Erin , I ordered from them and also had to call and give credit card info . It was nice stuff but they charged me $15 to ship 3 sets of scales ; not from Africa , the US . I thought it was a little too much . Other suppliers usually charge around $5 . My only experience by mail , I usually buy at shows . Bill

they are legit and honest and that's all I know about them.

:) I've bought from them at the Blade Show on several occasions. They are always extemely nice and friendly. But have never done any on-line business with them.

Sandy McClure runs the US part of Giraffebone.com. She is Vice President of KGA knifemakers group in Oklahoma. I am a member of KGA and met Sandy and her husband Jerry at the last KGA shop tour. She is a real fine lady and she has excellent products. I got a set of stabilized giraffe bone that she donated to the iron in the hat raffle. They are very beautiful. Haven't found a blade that deserves the scales yet. I would recommend them without hesitation. Any problems or questions, give them a call.

As Cal said they are very good people, if you really don't want to buy the scales you put in your basket I'm sure Sandy will understand if you call or e-mail here.

To all the knife makers out there..more info on www.giraffebone.com:

At Giraffebone.com, we are committed to providing you the customer with the best quality products and service. All of you might not be aware of it but we have recently started shipping directly from South Africa.

This was a very important business decision for us and we considered all the options as well as taking into account feedback from you the customer.

The fact that shipping time to customers from date of order on Giraffebone.com would increase was one of our primary concerns, however we decided that we could provide the best service to customers by directly shipping from South Africa.
Previously we were required to ship from South Africa to a US Distribution Centre. Shipping to a distribution centre in USA was a lengthy process. The bulk shipment could take up to 6 weeks before arriving in the USA, where it could take a further 2 weeks to reach our distribution centre. Sandy McClure runs the US distribution centre of Giraffebone.com in the USA. She is Vice President of KGA knifemakers group in Oklahoma.

Only when the goods were received by Sandy would the items be loaded onto the website and available for purchase.
Therefore the website was always 8 – 10 weeks behind and the website would only be restocked every 3 months.

By shipping from South Africa, items become available for sale as soon as we have finished production. This provides you the customer with a greater variety of products and ensures that the website remains fully stocked at all times.
Not only does shipping from South Africa increase the variety of products available but it also ensures that our prices remain low. Our commitment to maintain low prices despite the tough economic environment is demonstrated by the fact that we have not increased the price of Giraffe bone in 7 years!

Once you placed your order on www.giraffebone.com, Sandy McClure will contact you to organise payment as well as shipment. Shipping cost all depends on the weight of your order. Weight of each product is indicated with the description of each product. All transactions thus take place in the USA.

For any more question you are welcome to visit our website at www.giraffebone.com or contact Sandy on the toll free number (888) 804-0683

Be sure to check out our website regularly for the best quality African knife handles including Warthog tusks, Springbok horn, Kudu horn, Merino Rams horn, Impala Bone, Giraffe bone and Wildebeest bone in colours ranging from fossil, mammoth ivory and black marble as well as wide range of exotic African woods.

Great experience with Giraffebone.com

I just realized that I left this thread hanging...

I did end up purchasing some stabilized giraffe bone scales from Giraffebone.com and my experience was 110% positive. Bea was always courteous and friendly with emails, and the scales are way nicer than I expected. Shipping time is a bit long... but this is not unreasonable considering items are shipped from South Africa.

I am very excited to see how these scales end up looking on knife #8c.

Thanks Bea (and the rest of the Giraffebone.com team). I look forward to dealing with you in the future.
