November-2012 Bubble Jig with a mystery damascus billet to grind on giveaway.

I have the 19 layers for the first weld cut and ready to tig weld. The billet is a mix of 1084 & 15n20.

The billet has been stick welded across its ends, the sides have been ground smooth, its ready to be TIG welded at 1 inch intervals down the sides.
This billet will be forge welded using hydrocarbon solvent, thats the reason for the extra welds down the sides. I don't want any movement during heating to welding temp.
The billet is 1 1/4" x 2" x 4 1/2".

The billet has been TIG welded on 1 inch centers, down both sides to keep it stable during heating.

The billet has been setting at 2250 for an hour; ready to press the layers.

The layers are welded, now to square the billet.

This is a picture of the carbon jacket that you get when you use hydrocarbon solvent to make the canister.

Looks like a good weld.

The weld was successful; all of the hydrocarbon solvent scale has been ground off the billet's surface; its time to draw.

The billet, after drawing, measures 1 1/2 x 7/16 x 17 1/2 inches long. Time to cut into five, 3 1/2 inch lengths and get ready to weld again.
