    Slippie

Thanks Calvin. I went through that exercise a few months ago, but it might just be that a piece of 303 slipped through. I'll be going through my pin stash again, and might just throw it all away/use it for fixed blades, and then make sure I get guard and pin stock from the same supplier. The...

    Slippie

Thanks Calvin. I've had a really hard time making the pins disappear with stainless steel, even though the pin and the bolster are both 416 SS. There are no gaps around the pins, but the metal color is off. Maybe I should switch to Nickle Silver on my slippies... How have you gotten around it in...

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Please feel free to critique - I'm thick skinned, and only want to make better knives!

    Slippie

Thanks for the kind words, Phil. No real reason for using the screw vs. a pin - I just thought I'd mix it up a little bit.

    Slippie

I recently started playing with slippies. I made a few prototypes, and when I was happy with the design, I made three of these. This one has a G10 handle, the other two were stabilized Hawaiian Mango and African Blackwood. Here are some specs: Blade: CPM 154 (RC 59 - 61)...

    Anvil

Are there any markings on it? IT looks solid, but would need more info before anyone would really be able to comment.

What is your most used small wheel?

Same as above, I use my 3/4" the most, then my 1/2".

Official Summer 2013 KnifeDogs Knife in the Hat Thread

Glad you like it Jasun! Great pics, BTW! I had a lot of fun making it. The inlay in the sheath is beaver tail, BTW. On the same note, I got my knife from James yesterday. I haven't had time to take pics, and I'm traveling for work, so I'll probably only get to it over the weekend. Thanks again...

    Mill choice?

I've got the G0704, and love it. I haven't felt like I've needed more weight, but then again, I don't machine heavy chunks of steel either - mainly guard slots and a few bits and pieces. Actually, for the most part, I use it as a precision drill press... I also like the built in DRO on this...

Review of Paul Long's Basic Pouch and advanced dvd's

I bought all three as soon as they were available and have found them to be some of the best instructional pieces I have ever had. Worth every penny and then some! Paul, I told Chris this as well, but you guys did an outstanding job on these DVD's, andit got me off to a flying start! I've...

Steel question for thoe with more experience than me (everyone :)

I would echo Stan and Darrin on CPM 154. It is my go-to steel and I love working with it. Combines all three your elements very well, and Aldo can get you whatever size you need in just about any thickness.

Official Summer 2013 KnifeDogs Knife in the Hat Thread

Works for me. Thanks for all your efforts to push this along this year, Mark! Just a side note - I am traveling for work this week, so might only be able to get my knife sent out early next week, unless I can convince the wife to package it up and send it...
