Buckeye burl

I wanted to try some buckeye burl on a knife. The last time I was at the SDS knifeworks shop, Shawn gave me some to try out.

The knife is larger than I usually make. It's 10 1/2" OAL, 7/32" O1.

Big thanks to Shawn at SDS.

Great looking work Shawn. I really like that blade design and that handle looks awesome.
The wood really sets this piece off well.

Man that looks amazing. It kind of has an 'old world' look to it.

Thanks for the kind words. It's fun to try new handle materials. There were no surprises with the buckeye but I can now add that to my short list of handle materials I have used.

Gary, very nice knife. You should post pictures of more of your work.

Gary is pretty humble about his knives but makes some really great stuff.

Thanks for all the possitive feedback. I sharpen knives on stones and this one reminded me why I usually make smaller knives. There is a bunch of edge to get sharp on this one, it took awhile. I usually don't tool sheaths but I'm beginning to like the tooling part of sheath making so I will probably be doing it more often.

You are very skilled at all of your projects. Excellent knife and an excellent sheath. You need to be less bashful about showing your work. You are doing excellent work.

Thanks Mike. The knife in your avatar will be my next project. I like your style of knife. What is the OAL length of that one?
