    I dont use Damascus much and wondered why mine etch was dark and their etch was nice and detailed. They are both Alabama Damascus. It was etch in Radio Shack stuff . Cleaned with windex. Mine is the dark one. thanks Dave

    Its for a neighbor that is a chef and she said she wanted a BadA$$ chef knife. So she is well versed in the care of a good knife. Most of the $$$ Japanese and USA chefs knives arent SS. SO I just figured I go that direction.

    portable band saw which one ?

    I have a HF and I made a little frame to use it like a mini vertical band saw. Ive cut A LOT of steel and Titanium with it and I ve have it 8 years +. THe switch went out but I just plug it in after I bypassed it.

    I make folders. Some fix blades. I have a ats34 blank Ive had for years and grind on it every now and then, but not really wanting to make a SS one and its kinda thick. So I guess it is my first kitchen knife per say.

    I want to make a chef knife , I was reading Bob Kramers site and he said 52100 is one of the best to use. Upon reading Heat treating requirements, I probably cant HT it. So is there some company that will or is there another steel that is a better choice when your a heat to red and dunk it guy...

    Ive never used a bushing before. What is the guidelines for using them ? How do you decide the thickness ? I guess you dont use washers with them ? thanks Dave

    NO mill, no lathe and no surface grinder. Although I do have a mini wood lathe .Bronze will turn with wood lathe tools. Im making a lock back from a book. Wayne Clay style. He uses the jig Im trying to make on a disk sander.
