    Where to buy rise/fall indicator

I would like to buy a rise fall indicator for my slipjoints. Riverside has some, but I don't like the original Ruple design as well as the newer designs where the knob to lock the slide is on the top. Tracy is out of stock, and I think they said they'd be out of stock for several weeks. I...

    Wheeler Inspired small fixed blade

Nick Wheeler made a small paring knife the other day, which was the inspiration for this pattern. It's about 5 3/4" oal, .080" stock. The steel is belt finished 52100, curly maple scales with brass pins and an oil and varnish finish. Heat treat by Darrin Sanders to 62 rockwell. I can't wait to...

Help with m390/cpm20cv, grinding and general advice needed.

I've a customer who wants a small necker in m390. Just to verify, I've seen m390 called cpm20v, but usaknifemaker has cpm20cv. They are the same, right? I'd assume so, but you know what happens when you assume. The stock is 0.093", and I'm assuming a pain to grind. I'm also assuming, given...

Design critiques of these two knives?

I wondered if you all could give me some feedback on a couple designs, given this is my first time trying kitchen knives. About 8-8 1/2" gyuotos. I think I'm going to sacrifice a bit of width to flatten the belly out a bit. They are 1 15/16" now. Might have to lose 1/16" or 1/8" to get it...

    Second slipjoint, please critique honestly

Finished up my second slipjoint last night. I'm excited to have a knife I can be proud to carry, instead of my first attempt, which was an abomination of a knife. Specs: Steel: 3/32" A2 @ 61 Rc Heat Treat by Peter's Covers: Brown Canvas Micarta Pins/Liners/Bolsters: Nickel Silver OAL...

    Slightly bent slipjoint liners?

So......I was working on a slipjoint and I accidentally bent the liner a bit. Everything is shaped, soldered, ect. It's ready for pinning as soon as the parts get back from Peter's. I'm not sure how much its going to be bent, but it seems a bit off just holding it on a flat surface. I'll know...

    Rise/fall indicator dimensions

I have finally gotten a good enough working relationship with a local machinist that he has agreed to help me make a rise/fall indicator for around $40. However, I've only seen pictures, and never with any kind of dimensions. We could probably figure it out, but I'd really like to make this as...

    Trouble soldering bolsters

I am having trouble tinning my bolsters. I think maybe I can't get them hot enough. I can get the liners to tin, and they end up shiny solder on them like they should. But on the bolsters, I can get the solder to melt, but it is dull gray and of course isn't sticking to the bolsters. It seems...

    Minimum needed tools for slipjoints

Well, part of my steel order from Aldo was some 3/32 A2. I'd like to take part in the madness that is slipjoint making. @I've been reading and reading and looking at pictures and various tutorials all over the Internet, but the more I read, the more questions I have.@ Today I bought an old...
