New tool rest

Hello all - just a couple of photos to show a new tool rest I made today.

This image shows the mounting of tool rest with Platen in normal vertical position.

This image shows tool rest with grinder in the horizontal position. This gives a a nice straight position for straight line grinding. The corner wheels are 3" longboard wheels and make good contact grinding wheels. The corners are nicely radiused to fit the wheels for good grinding inside curves.

BTW, Just the show how smooth this direct drive grinder runs this image shows a nickel balanced on edge with belt speed at 4,000 SFPM, and nickel still holding steady. Pardon me for bragging a bit, but darn it - I'm tickled pink with this grinder :)

Thank ya'll for the nice comments - While this grinder in the horizontal position isn't as nice as Calvin's horizontal machine, it will get me by.

Looking good Ken! You might want to knock them outside corners off the rest, cause if your anything like me its just a place to impale yourself!!

What he didn't tell you is the spot of super glue holding the nickel. View attachment 54985

OK I am just yanking your chain Ken! :s12137:

He really can put a nickel on the frame and it runs so smooth that the nickel stays balanced. I already looked for the super glue, when showed me that trick! :what!::biggrin:

You are absolutely correct on the corners Cliff - that will be the first thing I do tomorrow.... or maybe later tonight. Left with sharp corners I'd be the first to hang my arm!

KEN,
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR GRINDER IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! BETTER than a LOT of the ones I've seen built and in some cases, bought! You have that knack, or ability, to do it and do it well, in some cases, better than others I've seen!!! GREAT JOB!
I'm sure you can recall how loud my grinder ran, how EXTREMELY LOUD it is...(but not for much longer!) I'm so glad you did yours so much better, I mean the entire thing is nothing short of, AWESOME!

Keep your eye out for a new post I'll be putting up in a few, I'm going to post a few questions about my grinder and some (exciting, for me) improvements I'm going to be adding to my KMG! Yeah, I'm a little excited! But, I've got some things I've got to figure out before I can get it up and running!
PROUD FOR YOU BRO`, NOW WEAR IT OUT! Or at least try to!
Your FRIEND, Rex
